I Think I'll Go to Wales Today - July 24, 2009

When I woke up this morning, I had the plan that a bunch of us were going to head into London after class, spend the day, grab a hotel room for the night, then spend tomorrow as well. Well...this plan just wasn't coming together very well. And I really like having a plan. Not having one bothers me. And really, there wasn't that much stuff I had left to do in London....sooo....

Candice and I went to Wales instead.

After English class (we didn't have 210 today), we grabbed some Hot and Tasty Shack (obviously a clear winner just because of the name -- but cheap delicious food just around the corner) and headed to the train station. Since we have our BritRail passes with the program, might as well use them. The train up to Wales took about 2 hours, and was through beautiful countryside. I wish my pictures had turned out.

Once we got to Cardiff, the capitol city of Wales, we headed for the main street, which turned out to be this awesome shopping area. So...we couldn't resist. We did a little shopping. I got some really cute cheap dresses though! So great!!

We headed over to the Cardiff Castle, which turned out to be really cool. It was very pretty, and manageable...not too big and stressful to see. At one point we ended up in this probably not open to the public room that had the original castle walls on one side and these awesome, really detailed wooden carvings all on the other side. That was really neat.

After the castle we attempted to go to the art museum, but unfortunately it was closing just as we walked in. Instead, we headed down to the bay area to grab some dinner. This area was absolutely gorgeous, and so quaint and nice. There were little restaurants and such all by the water -- well, we passed this "American diner" -- like 50's music and milkshakes and everything...and, well, Candice has this little obsession with nacho cheese....so we just had to eat there because they had cheese fries. It was pretty funny to witness her excitement. But I had a nice cheeseburger...with French's Mustard!! I know that's not exciting to you, but the English mustard is not good. I didn't even realize how much I missed my mustard until I had some!

After dinner we meandered back to the train station and headed back to Oxford since everything was closing up. We grabbed quick showers then got dressed, then met up with a bunch of the GA Tech people who stayed in town this weekend. We were just going to have a chill night, but ended up going out to Kukui for the night...which was really fun. I met some people from all over the place - I love that about here. Like, there's people from anywhere and everywhere. Even Albania.

In the end, I'm really really glad we headed up to Wales for the day instead of London. The weather turned out to be beautiful, the city was really pretty and a lot of fun, and it was just cool so now I can say I've been. I've now been to every part of the UK except Northern Ireland. Oh well, I'll pick it up next time!!
